S/M Spirituality for GenderQueer Persons:
The Philosophy of Chado by Shirley Bushnell
The meditation that leads to deep spiritual insight. Training body & mind in awareness using the philosophy of Tea Service.  The Four Principles of Tea Service: WA (harmony), KEI (respect), SEI (purity), & JAKU (tranquility). Believe me, it will be interactive. It will be similar to trainings I have done for S/M tea service. I will talk about each of the four principles of Tea Service & have an interactive exercise for each one.

Vocal Gender by Zarah Ersoff
Group discussion about vocal gender - how we speak, sing, & otherwise perform our voices with gendered inflections.  I also want to talk about how our voices can become a source of gender anxiety - or a chance to play & explore our gender(s). I've written a lot academically on vocal gender in trans music, but I also know that voices can be a big issue for trans & genderqueer folks, in terms of passing & self-expression.
It's funny, because almost all the time we talk about visual stuff (clothing, facial hair, body shapes, grooming), but so much of gender has an aural component.  What is vocal "realness" - & can a voice be "real" even if it is also performed?  I think a lot of this relates to self-esteem & identity - the  sense that as gender minorities, we are somehow less "real" than the gendered majority (if such a group even exists!)

Isolation by Mike/Michell Dennis
In this un-workshop, I will ask participants to explore the many dimensions of the "isolation" they may be experiencing through art which they will create on the spot. The art creations will then be displayed as a backdrop for a community brainstorming session focused on how we can, as individuals & as a community, overcome our isolation. One way that I am seeking to overcome isolation is through the creation of a group of "chaplain volunteers" to be deliverers of total acceptance & unconditional love to incarcerated transgender/genderqueer persons in the Los Angles County Central jail & the Twin Towers jail facilities. More about this effort will be shared during this un-workshop.

Behold a People by Rabbi Levi
Come discover your own roots, find out about the gender journeys of pioneers who have walked our roads before us & learn of the contributions our people have made as we take back our history & claim your legacy! Join Rabbi Levi in this interactive multi-modal historical experience un-workshop.

GenderQueer & Trans Media Images by Shauna Madrigal
In this un-workshop we will view some samples of images of gender gifted folks in film & discuss how they affect the perceptions of folks not familiar with gender variant people & what effect this has on us individually & as a community. How do performance & perception interplay? The genderqueerness of playing a gendered role, of how others perceive the character, how GQ & gender-gifted people experience internal & external shifts as a result of perception.

Dated 6/25/06: Volunteer Opportunites at G.E.N.D.E.R.S.! This Sat/Sun, July 1-2!!
UPDATE!
Want to be take part in a unique, ground-breaking event?
Volunteer for G.E.N.D.E.R.S.!
(Please spread the word!)

G.E.N.D.E.R.S., a unique conference/retreat, a truly genderqueer celebration (July 1-2, Saturday night and Sunday all day, Plummer Park in the City of West Hollywood, 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard). At every step of the way, we're finding ways to make G.E.N.D.E.R.S. as inclusive, interactive, and experiential as possible, removing that line between performer/presenter and audience, whatever these terms mean anyway. We're also making sure to go beyond the academic, artistic, artisanal, cause-oriented, psychological/spiritual, crossing race, class, color, ability, sexuality, gender, genderqueer/gendergiftedness, but rather melding seemingly separate spheres.

Updated G.E.N.D.E.R.S. Volunteer Opportunities

Sign-making party: THIS FRIDAY! Email genderqueerrevolution@gmail.com with "Signs" to find out the where and when!

Setting up the space (both the Sanctuary and the Quiet Room):
SATURDAY: Need folks to arrive no later than 4 PM on Saturday, July 1. Anyone with Set Design and/or Curating skills? Need creative and careful people to put up decorations, ART, lights, cushions, tables, mats, candles, and the like. Think "party" - cozy, warm, inviting, funky, colorful decor that encourages stimulating conversation, creativity, and a sense of Home...
SUNDAY: Need set-up volunteers to arrive no later than 9:30 on Sunday morning.

Video and Photos: Most importantly, we need to document and record this historic event. We're looking for several people with video cameras and digital still cameras to take turns capturing the events of Saturday night and the un-workshops throughout the day on Sunday.

Food/beverages: Got a cooler, ice box, or a small freezer to loan? Great! We're also looking for people to help dispense and sell beverages and snacks. Got some knack with an oven? Why not donate some home-made treats? Please, bring your coolers and treats on Saturday as we set up, around 4 PM.

Greeters: A few people to take turns with sign-ins and donations at the door

Patrol: A few people to make sure that people can find the place and to discourage mild hooliganism

Help Haul: Need someone to help haul supplies to the event Saturday afternoon. Got a truck or station wagon with some storage space?

After G.E.N.D.E.R.S., GenderQueer Revolution will be offering opportunities to volunteer. Interested? Of course you are! Write us at genderqueerrevolution@gmail.com for more post-G.E.N.D.E.R.S. opportunities to help change the world.

Dated 6/13/06: Instructions for submitting G.E.N.D.E.R.S. Visual Art
Thank you so much for contributing to the magic of G.E.N.D.E.R.S. with gender-defying visual art! G.E.N.D.E.R.S., (GenderQueer Equality Now: Deconstructing Everything, Revitalizing S/spirits) will be taking place from July 1-2, at Plummer Park in West Hollywood. If you're going to be in the area, you could bring your art and yourself to the conference location in Plummer Park on July 1st. If you won't be able to make it to Los Angeles in time, or if you need to send your art on ahead before the 1st, please let us know so we can talk about how you might want to send it to us. We will be displaying your art in the Sanctuary (the main meeting location) and the Meditation/Safe Room for everyone to interact with it and for it to inspire and directly impact the heart, soul, mind, and S/spirit during the performance/invocation/celebration on Saturday night, July 1, and all day on Sunday, July 2, during the un-workshops.

If you haven't already, please send us the following:
1) A description (and hopefully JPGs or a link to a website with images) of the pieces you're submitting
2) A bio that describes your work, your experience, your connections to the genderqueer community, what makes your art "genderqueer revolutionary" and what makes YOU "genderqueer revolutionary," and anything else you would like to include in your bio for the program
3) A portrait/JPG of yourself for the program
4) Titles and short descriptions for each of your pieces (optional, but very helpful)

Thank you very much,

-GenderQueer Revolution Board

P.S.: One more thing. Some of you have asked if you can submit art to G.E.N.D.E.R.S. that doesn't directly deal with gender/queer themes. Your art, as with anything that comes from that place of Truth inside you, without doubt, will on some level incorporate every part of you, including your genderqueer/gender-gifted/gender-fabulous attributes and character. It can't not. So please, create boldly and submit with confidence, friends.

Dated 6/9/06: GenderQueer Visual Art for G.E.N.D.E.R.S (GenderQueer Equality Now: Deconstructing Everything, Revitalizing S/spirits)

Would you like to contribute genderqueer, bi-gender, androgynous, gender-gifted visual art for G.E.N.D.E.R.S. (GenderQueer Equality Now: Deconstructing Everything, Revitalizing S/spirits), July 1-2, Plummer Park? We would like to cover the walls with imagery, clippings, posters, as well as paintings, drawings, collages, video, and photographs of genderqueer art, as inspiration throughout the conference. We want to nourish ourselves emotionally, psychologically, mentally, spiritually, and physically, with beautiful genderqueer-inspired art surrounding us. If you have such art you would like to share with us for the duration of the conference, please consider submitting it for display! (Also, please feel free to use the opportunity to promote yourself and sell your art.) I'm particularly hoping that certain gender-inspired manga artists, genderqueer children's book illustrators, trans/genderqueer photographers and such will submit their work...

If you would like to submit art, please contact the GQR Board at genderqueerrevolution@gmail.com. Thank you!

Dated 6/5/06: G.E.N.D.E.R.S. NEWS and UPDATES (GenderQueer Equality Now: Deconstructing Everything, Revitalizing S/spirits)

Update on the Times and Place
July 1-2
Plummer Park in the City of West Hollywood
7377 Santa Monica Boulevard
Saturday night, July 1: A mixture of performance, invocation, and celebration.
Sunday, July 2, all day: Different "workshops," or rather,
A series of unique experiences that will change, challenge, and move

We had a wonderfully productive meeting yesterday at Trans-Unity as we shared with each other a vision for G.E.N.D.E.R.S. (GenderQueer Equality Now: Deconstructing Everything, Revitalizing S/spirits) My thanks to all who came, bringing ideas for what you wanted to create for G.E.N.D.E.R.S . For those of you who couldn't make it, if you're still interested in bringing something to G.E.N.D.E.R.S., please contact us so we can discuss and create a truly unique offering that would include:

1) Interactivity. Finding ways to make what you bring as inclusive, interactive, and experiential as possible, removing that line between performer/presenter and audience, whatever these terms mean anyway.

2) Multi-modality. Making what you bring more than "just" academic, artistic, artisanal, cause-oriented, psychological/spiritual, crossing race, class, color, ability, sexuality, gender, genderqueer/gendergiftedness, but rather a mixture, a melding of different seemingly separate spheres. (For example, someone who might bring an academic paper into which they've poured their heart, soul, and energy might also provide interactive opportunities in the form of exercises that would encourage everyone to tap into the heart of what such a paper means to explore, perhaps leading up to discussion as to how to apply such ideas into world-changing action.)

We have only a few spaces left, so please, act quickly. If you already submitted your proposal, for example, at the vision-actualizing meeting yesterday, please confirm by writing us back at genderqueerrevolution@gmail.com so that we may finalize what you will bring/create.

We will release more details as well as a few more surprises shortly - stay tuned.

In friendship and solidarity in the Revolution,
GenderQueer Revolution Board
